The moment i knew something had to change

As I type this, I’m in Palm Springs, about to spend three full days with women who didn’t see what they were looking for so they decided to build it. Women who refused to accept structures that didn’t fit. Women designing companies, communities, and careers that actually allow them to thrive. Women choosing both.

At the same time, we’re launching our third podcast series: Wellness AND Performance. In this series, you’ll hear stories from remarkable people who have intentionally created space for both, not just in their personal lives, but inside the workplaces and cultures they are shaping. They are disrupting the lie that you must sacrifice health, relationships, time, or community in order to win. In fact, they’ve proven the opposite: when you invest in wellness, performance expands.

This theme is deeply personal to me, and I’ll be honest… this may be the most vulnerable note I’ve written yet. Even as I type this, there’s a small voice asking, Should I share this video? Which is usually my sign that yes… I need to.

About 20 months ago, my life looked very different. From the outside, you likely wouldn’t have known. I’m pretty good at compartmentalizing. Professionally, I was at an all-time high — title, compensation, the traditional markers of success. There were real moments of joy in that season.

And.

My cup was empty.

There was too much misalignment with my non-negotiables. My structure did not allow for both wellness and performance, and for someone wired as a high-performing builder, that tension was incredibly frustrating. The video below is something I sent to my best friend while I was overseas for work. I was overwhelmed, burnt out, and fully aware that something had to change. I saved it as a marker, a reminder, a line in the sand. It has become the video I revisit when opportunities come my way that are oh-so-tempting but ultimately misaligned with what I’m building: a life that holds wellness AND performance.

For me, wellness looks like community and flexibility. It looks like supporting work I’m deeply passionate about and being there when my kids wake up. It looks like daily walks, early morning power hours, aligned core values, and room to breathe. Because I know I can do good work anywhere. But to do truly great work…the kind that changes things, the kind that leaves legacy, I need space for wellness, and I need to be surrounded by people who prioritize it too.

So I started taking steps. Some were tiny. Some were bold. All were intentional. And over time, those small steps began building a different structure.

If you are in a season like I was, operating in a structure that doesn’t allow for both, feeling empty even though your resume looks full, I hope this letter and this video serve as a reminder. You don’t have to do all the things. You don’t have to win someone else’s race. You don’t have to sacrifice your health or relationships to prove your worth.

You can begin taking steps.

Yes, it’s hard, especially when financial security is intertwined with your choices. I understand that deeply. Only you know what your timeline and transition need to look like.

And.

The steps are worth it.

Because the world doesn’t need you exhausted and overextended. It needs you well. It needs you aligned. It needs your superpowers in an environment where they can thrive.

Let’s build differently. 🤍
